I just found something that I wrote once and that I had nearly forgotten. During the last two weeks a British journalist had asked me something about old times in Berlin with KS and Tangerine Dream, and while I was exchanging mails with this friendly Briton (who is working on some re-releases of T.D. albums) trying to be of some help, this story came again to my mind. I still find it of interest because it has to do with music and with KS, at least in the broader sense.
I found my article in an older THE KS CIRCLE ( issue 66 from January 2002):

While I type this page (on 4th of January between 7 and 7:45 in the evening) I also listen to the radio (Deutschlandfunk), and there's a broadcast about the life story of a German lady, a classical violin player and music pedagogue. After the stories about her first musical inspirations (coming from a totally non-musical home) by listening to the street musicians who used to play on Berlin's backyards, then about her studies in Berlin under the nazis, about the end of the war in Berlin when the house collapsed and she was in the air-raid shelter underneath, ...the sympathetic lady mentions her daughter (born 1950) who also started to study the violin (at the age of 5), and then she mentions her son, who didn't want to study violin, but instead he started to learn the trumpet (because it was louder than the united violins of sister & mother), but he had to drop it because of a lip allergy, and then he learned to play the drums (also pretty loud). One day the son travelled to London, and brought the first synthesizer back to Berlin, (here my ears became bigger and I started to listen more carefully to the background radio), the son then studied English written synthesizer manuals in his little private room in Berlin Eichkamp, and then a certain Edgar Froese asked him to take the chair of Klaus Schulze who had just left the group...
And now I really paid attention to the name of the lady and her son. It was: Franke. The son was Christoph Franke. Mother lives now [2002 this was] in a monastery in Germany's Lower Saxonia.

Muss ich jetzt doch noch ernsthaft Französisch lernen?
In Frankreich gibt's eine Internet-Zeitung, die funktioniert: MEDIAPART. Sie hat Erfolg und sie lebt tatsächlich nur von den Abonnenten, die sie lesen wollen, für 90 € per anno. Dort geht also das prima, was in Deutschland nicht funktioniert. Jedenfalls nicht so, wie die deutschen Verleger es wollen und (noch) tun. Und vor allem: MEDIAPART ist ganz ohne Reklame. Und sie ist gut, denn sie ist so, wie man sich guten Journalismus vorstellt. Und wünscht. (Die gute Qualität bestätigt jedenfalls die SZ, ich kann ja leider nicht gut genug Französisch).
Diese französische MEDIAPART-Online-Zeitung scheint sich an Karl Kraus zu orientieren? Dass Reklame in der Zeitung was Übles ist, hat KK bereits vor 100 Jahren erkannt.
Ich glaube, auch heute wollen gute Journalisten mit Reklame nix zu tun haben; sie lieben die Sprache und sie wollen aufklären, jedenfalls die Guten, nicht Korrumpierbaren. Und ich glaube, es gibt sie. Immer noch. Menschen werden ja nicht korrupt und als Lügner geboren.
Nur, Journalisten (und Leser) haben sich so stark an die Reklame gewöhnt, dass sie ihnen als selbstverständlich vorkommt, quasi als von Gott gegeben: ohne geht es nicht.
Nun sieht man, es geht. (Auch der "Le Canard enchaîné", ebenfalls im Nachbarland, ist ganz ohne Reklame und floriert; allerdings als Satirezeitung und im Internet hat er nur eine kleine Seite, die zum Abonnement der Papierausgabe aufruft).

Man glaubt es kaum, weil man's nicht gewohnt ist: Reklame ist nicht notwendig. Nicht mal im Internet. Und wenn man mal nüchtern drüber nachdenkt: sie ist NIE notwendig, sie ist nur lästig, verlogen und sie verschandelt unsere Welt, sie macht unseren Gesichtskreis nur knallbunt, aber nicht farbig.

Also, immer wenn ich - z.B. im Perlentaucher - den Namen des sicherlich verdienstvollen Journalisten der Frankfurter Rundschau: Harry Nutt lese, muss ich an die Namen der Protagonisten in den wunderbaren Geschichten von Nick Knatterton denken.

The release of LA VIE ELECTRONIQUE 10 is announced for late June 2011. The three discs contain recordings from the years 1985 to '92, from concerts, as well as studio recordings and two soundtracks. And a ten-minute BONUS track not released before, from a concert encore in Aachen, 1985. And a five-minute interview from the Spain tour 1991 as additional bonus. The other tracks were formerly released on "Jubilee Edition", one track on "Historic Edition". The full entry in the official KS website's discography will follow soon.

German Amazon offers already the mp3 download, but: who will really neglect the set's beautiful packaging (by Thomas Ewerhard) with the many topical photos and the stories about all the tracks' origins, as well as Lars Fischer's written contribution "From the Northern Lights of Scandinavia to the Barcelona Sun" in English ...und Deutsch.
